For many students this is something hard to do in Spanish, even though they have a good level of Spanish. Talking on the phone requires having a good listening comprehension, because not listening directly and not watching the person you are talking you may create difficulties to your comprehension. Other problem may be the use of certain expressions that are very specific for telephone conversations.
Here are some useful expressions to talk on the telephone:
Talking to someone at a company:
– Telefónica, Buenos días. ¿En qué puedo ayudarlo?
– Buenos días. Quisiera hablar con el Sr. Vazquez, por favor.
– El Sr. Vazquez tiene la línea ocupada. ¿Desea esperar en línea? ¿O prefiere llamar más tarde?
– Si, lo espero.
– Muy bien.
– Sr. El Sr. Vazquez ya cortó. Le comunico. ¿De parte de quien?
– Habla el Sr. González de Telecom.
– Un momento por favor.
-¿Hola?
– ¿Sr. Vazquez?
– Si.
-Buenos días, soy el Sr. Gonzalez de Telecom. Lo llamo porque….
An informal call to a house:
– ¿Hola?

Leaving a message
